Compute like I cook...

I do! I swear it.

My computing habits are very similar to my kitchen and cooking habits. Maybe because my computer is actually in my kitchen.

Whether it's cleaning up after myself, how I use the measuring spoons, put things away and pull them back out because I need them again, and generally keep a tidy kitchen during cooking, it's all the same.

For example, I will Instant Message with someone, finish for now, close the window, re-open because I'm not done and have another comment.

I hate having too many windows open simultaneously, I prefer to open a document, make a change, add a paragraph, then save and close it. Then open it again because of course I forgot to add something.

Weird how our habits translate across platforms.

Anyway.

I know that my desktop looks a lot like my desk.

On my computer, I have at least 10 programs open at any given time, in a huge stack of windows. Terminal usually has at least 4 SSH sessions open to various machines, some of which idle for days until I need them.

My desk (and office in general) is made up of stacks and piles and almost all useable space is covered up. I only organize and put things away when I need a big open space for a new project (like assembling Sniffters).

Like Bill, my cooking habits even follow the trend. I like having a lot of counter space to work on, and I don't really clean up until after the meal (or during the cook time if it's a slow-cook type of dinner).

Interesting observation, Bill!
