Nespresso Lifestyle & How to Order
My first entry of the new year, as it were, on a good topic!
The Nespresso system is wonderful for the tinkerer. Which is why I own the completely manual style D150 machine instead of one of the more automated versions.
However, several more tips and errata have come to my attention from watching others attempt to use my machine to create the world's greatest cup o' joe.
Cappuccinjoe, that is!
First... Nespresso wanted to raise their rates on the Lungo capsule to 55 cents when they raised the classic line to 49 cents. Apparently this failed, and the price is back down to a more reasonable 49 cents, matching their entire line. As noted previously, 2-day shipping is now $5.95.
Second, and on to a much more important topic: Fair Trade coffee: Sustainable agriculture and livable wages!
In short, I've sent several emails and received encouraging responses from Nespresso regarding this. In their most recent "N" magazine issue, they spend several pages outlining what appears to be a comprehensive program for ensuring the best quality coffees, sustainable agriculture, and better wages for farmers.

Finally: Further Froth Tips
Turn on the steam function a few seconds before dipping the froth wand into the milk. I flip the nozzle around so it is pointing down over the liquid catch basin. As it heats up, water sort of pours out before the steam. This is good for those worried about their milk getting watered down.
Also, clean the froth nozzle! NOTE: turn clockwise to remove the bottom part of the froth nozzle (model D150) and you'll usually find it caked with dried milk. There are 2 holes in that small brown plastic piece that *must* be clear to allow air through which creates the perfect froth.
After each use, blow the steam nozzle for a few seconds to clear milk from the holes. Again, blow it into the drain catch.
And for better Nespresso presentation and warmer coffee, try the new Bodum cappuccino cups which are wonderful. See my entry with a picture here.
